Regarding his death, if he delivered Ingegerd Olofsdotter born around 1001, to Jaroslav 1019, he must have been killed that year,
meaning that we can't have different version in this profile, either it's true that Ingegerd married Jaroslav or not.

In English:
Rogvolod (or Rogovolod) (d. c. 978) was a Prince of Polotsk, the Varangian father of Rogneda, founder of a dynasty, and party to
an internecine struggle in 975-980.
Historical evidence
The story of Rogvolod are found in many ancient chronicles of 980 to 1128, but all can be traced to one printed source (as well as
several oral sources):
The Chronicle under 980:
Vladimir returned to Novgorod with the Vikings... and sent forth the difficult question of the Prince of Polotsk, saying: "I want to
marry your daughter." The father asked his daughter: "Will you marry Vladimir?" To which she replied: "I do not want the unshod
son of a slave, but I want to marry Yaropolk. Rogvolod came from beyond the sea and held power in Polotsk, and in the past held
power in Turov (thus earning the nickname "Turovtsev"). When came the servants of Vladimir, he told them of the whole response
of Rogneda, daughter of Prince Rogvolod of Polotsk. Vladimir collected many soldiers - Normans, Slovenes, Chud, and Kryvichy,
and marched on Rogvolod. He demanded to have Rogneda, rather than Yaropolk. Vladimir attacked Polotsk and killed Rogvolod
and his two sons, and forced Rogvolod's daughter to marry him.
The Suzdal Chronicle on the Laurentian list under 1128:
About the same Vseslavich it is clearly told that Rogvolod was in possession of Polotsk, and held it, and reigned in it. Vladimir
was in Novgorod, a minor and a pagan, and sent his uncle, the brave governor and administrator of Dobrynya, with a difficult task,
to ask for the daughter to marry Vladimir. This Rogvolod came from frozen lands and owned Polotsk. Dobrynya, filled with rage,
took his men and marched on Polotsk and defeated Rogvolod. Rogvolod fled the city as Dobrynya approached and took the city,
while the prince caught up with Rogvolod, his wife, and his daughter, the latter of whom she called the son of a slave. Vladimir
commanded her to be with him before her mother and father. Vladimir then killed her father and forced her to marry. She said "I
am saddened because my father has been killed and his land was captured because of me." And since then, the sword has been
drawn between the grandchildren of Rogvolod and the grandchildren of Yaroslav.
Tatischev passes along information about Rogvolod in the Yoakimovskoy Chronicle: "Vladimir returned from the Varyag with an
army and collected other men of Novgorod, and with them went to the Prince of Polotsk Rogvolda, because he had won the parish
of Novgorod. Rogvolod is not merely a vassal of Yaropolk, but also an active ally in the internecine struggles of 975-978.
Views of Historians:
References to the name Rogvolod
Rydzewski and Jackson are recognized as authorities, and they suggest that the name Rogvolod and the name of his daughter
Rogneda are possibly explained as Scandinavian and have a characteristic alliteration. The Nordic version of the name Rogvolod is
Regnvald, and Rogneda is Ragnhild.
A number of pre-Revolutionary Russian historians - Golubovsky, Kostomarov, Dovnar-Zapolsky - doubted the Varangian origin of
the Princes of Polotsk. There is an explanation that Rogvolod is from the slavic word "Horn" and Volodya (or Vsevolod).
Given that the word "Horn" in Old Russian language (as in many Indo-European languages) means a scepter, the visible symbol of
power, this translation on behalf of Rogvolod requires no Scandinavian exaggeration. It means "mastering authority," and Rogneda
means "gentle authority, born to power." Marrying this with the response to Dobrynya, it means: I do not want to be a Russian
slave. This position is maintained by Timofeev.
Historicity of Rogvolod
Historians do not fully trust the Chronicle, calling attention to keeping it being a difficult task. Rydzewski does not deny the
possibility that "the legend of Rogvolod as a Norman was created" and can only be dynastic, "with the spirit such as those already
absolutely fantastic genealogies that are known in Russian historiography, the Moscow period. Perhaps the tradition goes back to
the saga, prevailing in Polotsk no later than the end of the 9th century and beginning of the 12th.
Thus there are two versions of the origin of the prince. In one, he is a representative of a local dynasty. Slavs Rogvolod and
Rogneda are knowledgeable of Slavic wedding customs. According to another version, Rogvolod is the Viking Regnvald.
V. Konovalov identifies him as Regnvald the Ilustrious (Olafsson), King in Vestfolde. "This song is called the list of Ynglings.
Regnvald was the son of Olaf Alva Geyrstadira, brother of Halvdan the Black. The song is called 30 ancestors of Regnvald"
Regnvald Olafsson was a Norwegian who lived in the 8th century, and information about him has survived.
Melnikov and Jackson see similar information between the Chronicles and the Scandinavian saga "Strand of Eymunde" (13th
century), which addresses the issue of Scandinavian possession of Polotsk. This is the story of such an occupation taking place in
1015-1019. Historians believe it to be fiction, by which is based the recollection of a Varangian Prince of Polotsk. In the saga is an
active participant, Jarl Regnvald Ulfsson, a near relative of the Swedish Ingegerd, wife of Yaroslav the Wise, who ruled in Ladoga.
Despite the literary tradition, Regnvald Ulfsson is a historical personality and cannot be identified with Rogvolod, Prince of
Polotsk, though it is believed that they have the same name, and he is an alleged descendant of Gyuryata Rogovic, Prince of
Novgorod, or so informs the Chronicle (Article 1096). These need to be taken into account only if you accept that Rogvolod is
legendary and his name is fictional.
Rogvolod's name was given to his son and grandson Vseslav of Polotsk (11th century). The shunned progeny of Vladimir felt
themselves to be affiliated more as Rogvolod's grandchildren - the female line. His own demise was not based on the awards to
Izyaslav of Vladimir, but from the line of succession from a difficult task. Thus, despite the legendary sources of Prince Rogvolod,
we cannot dought his historicity, as the mention of his daughter Rogneda are chronicled early, back to the first half of the 11th
century.
Chronology of events
The Chronicle dates are very conventional. From the "Tales of Bygone years," internecine war between the sons of Svyatoslav
began in 975, and Vladimir, who fled the strife, returned to Novgorod and attacked Polotsk no earlier than 977. The fight ended,
during which Rogvolod was killed, no later than 980.
Jacob Mnich (11th century) on the one hand confirms the date of 980, saying that Prince Vladimir did all this in the 8th year after
the death of Svyatoslav (972), but indicates an exact date of the completion of strife - June 11, 6486, or 978. This date is known
and the authors of the "Tales of Bygone Years," as he began a story about the sons of Vladimir feuding under 977, and article 1054
indicates that Yaroslav the Wise, son of Rogneda, lived 76 years - that is, the Chronicler was guided by the same 978. If we take
these data as reliable, Rogvolod could not be killed later than 978.
In 2007, an archeological excavation discovered layers from the end of the 10th century consistent with a huge conflagration.
Perhaps further research will disclose the events related to the murder of Rogvolod in more detail and give their precise dating.
Children
Rogvolod had an unknown wife with two sons who were killed together along with their father during the capture of Polotsk by
Vladimir Svyatoslavich, c. 977. They also had a daughter Rogneda, who was forced to marry Vladimir. Rogvolod's descendants
were not only these, but also Yaroslav descendants (OUR ANCESTRY), as Yaroslav the Wise several times was called by the
Chronicle the son of Rogneda.
These Ragnvalds are mis-merged (they are for a Ragnvald whose importance to the marriage of Ingegerd with Vladimir's son
Yaroslav took place well after Rognvald von Polotsk's death):
Ragnvald Ulfsson bodde i Skara.
Ragnvald Jarl hade emellertid i
Men i
Men
There are two theories about who he's the son of. The most reliable is probably that he's the son of Ulf Tostesson and Ingeborg. The
other says he's the son of Uleb/Ulf, who's the son of Olga of Kiev.
---
Ragnvald Ulfsson the Old (beginning 11th century) was a jarl of Västergötland or Östergötland, and married to a sister of Olav
Tryggvason.
Ragnvald is mentioned in the skaldic poem Austrfaravísur, ascribed to Sigvatr Þórðarson, skald of King Olaf Haraldsson of
Norway (Olaf the Holy), who had been on a diplomatic mission to Sweden. This poem is quoted in the 13th century sagas
Fagrskinna and Snorri Sturluson's Heimskringla. In addition to the poem, Fagrskinna only briefly mentions Ragnvald, while
Heimskringla contains a more elaborate account of him. This 13th century prose text is not considered historically reliable.
According to Snorri, Ragnvald was the son of jarl Ulf Tostesson and Ingeborg and the foster-son of Þorgnýr the Lawspeaker. He
was the cousin of Olof Skötkonung, through his aunt Sigrid the Haughty, and he was married to Ingeborg Tryggvasdotter.
During his days the Norwegians pillaged in Västergötland, but then the Norwegian king, Olaf the Holy, proposed to the Swedish
princess Ingigerd Olofsdotter, the daughter of Sweden's king Olof Skötkonung. This pleased Ragnvald who was related to both.
However, at the Thing at Gamla Uppsala, Ragnvald and his foster-father Þorgnýr the Lawspeaker had to force Olof, the Swedish
king, to promise his daughter to Olaf, the Norwegian king, whom he did not like. When the Swedish king failed to deliver his
daughter, Ragnvald realized that he was in trouble. He has not only fallen out of grace with the Swedish king, but he could also
expect the revenge of the Norwegians.
During a visit by the skald Sigvatr Þórðarson, Ragnvald learned that Prince Jaroslav of Kievan Rus' has proposed to Ingigerd, and
so he had the idea that Olaf the Holy should marry the illegitimate daughter of Olof Skötkonung, Astrid, who was staying with
Ragnvald. Sigvat promised to deliver the message, and the Norwegian king accepted.
Ragnvald delivered Astrid at Sarpsborg in Norway and she married the king after Christmas, 1019.
Olof Skötkonung was now so upset that he intended to hang Ragnvald at the next Thing. However, when Ingigerd Olofsdotter
married Jaroslav, Ingigerd managed to arrange that Ragnvald became the jarl of Staraja Ladoga (Aldeigjuborg) and Ingria, and
Olof let him depart with Ingigerd in the summer of 1019.
Fagrskinna's account of Olaf the Holy's betrothal to Ingigerd, and eventual wedding with Astrid, differs significantly from the
account in Heimskringla. In Fagrskinna's account, Ragnvald is not given a prominent role in the proceedings.
Married to Ingeborg Tryggvasdotter. Children:
Ulf Ragnvaldsson Jarl
Eilif Ragnvaldsson Jarl
He is considered to have fathered king Stenkil, with Astrid Nialsdotter from Norway, but this is based on later Icelandic sources,
and the identification of Ragnvald with Ragnvald the Old of Hervarar saga.

I Norge

Ragnvald delivered Astrid at Sarpsborg in Norway and she married the king after Christmas of 1019.
Children:
-Ulf Ragnvaldsson Jarl
-Eilif Ragnvaldsson Jarl
He is considered to have fathered king Stenkil,[2] with Astrid Nialsdotter from Norway, but this is based on later Icelandic
sources,[3] and the identification of Ragnvald with Ragnvald the Old of Hervarar saga.[4]

Presuming that this profile is perhaps for a mistakenly merged Konrad:
KONRAD [Kuno] von Öhningen, son of [KONRAD Graf im Rheingau und in der Ortenau & his wife [Judith ---] or UDO Graf in
der Wetterau & his wife [Cunegundis] de Vermandois] (-20 Aug 997). The question of the paternity of Duke Konrad is discussed
in the document FRANCONIA. Thietmar names "Conradus Suevorum ductor…eiusdem frater Heribertus comes" when recording
their deaths[95]. "Otto…imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of
Oehningen, built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde,
filiorumque eius Eggeberti, Luipoldi, Chononis, Lutoldi"[96], although as shown below this list of the couple's sons appears
unreliable. The Chronicon Salernitanum records that "comes Alemannorum Saxonumque…Cono…Cuneus alius validus…missus"
fought against the Greeks in southern Italy in [969][97]. Jackman suggests that this refers to the future Konrad I Duke of Swabia,
on the basis that "Saxonumque" is added because of his supposed wife's Saxon origin, in addition using this reference to date the
couple's marriage[98]. He succeeded in 983 as KONRAD I Duke of Swabia. Graf im Rheingau 985 and 995. Graf im Ufgau 987.
Graf in der Ortenau 994. The Annales Einsidlenses record the death in 997 of "Chuonradus dux" and the succession of
"Herimannus filius eius in ducatum"[99]. The necrology of St Gall records the death "XIII Kal Sep" of "Chuonradi ducis
Alamannorum"[100].
m ([968][101]) RICHLIND, daughter of [Emperor OTTO I King of Germany & his second wife Adelais of Burgundy] (-[after 1
Nov 1007]). The Historia Welforum names "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint" as wife of "Couno comes"[102].
Jackson[103] identifies her as daughter of Liudolf [of Saxony] Duke of Swabia, son of Emperor Otto I, but the question is not
without controversy. In view of the clear statement in the Historia Welforum and the spurious charter, it has been decided to show
her here as the child of Emperor Otto I despite the unreliability of these sources, but in square brackets to indicate doubt.
"Otto…imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of Oehningen, built according
to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde…"[104]. As discussed below in
relation to the supposed children of this couple, there are considerable doubts about the accuracy of information contained in this
charter. The date should not therefore be accepted automatically as the basis for estimating the date of the couple's marriage. She
may be "domna Rilint" from whom "Heinricus…rex" acquired property "in Halla in pago Salzburcgouui in comitatu Thiemonis
comitis", which he donated to the bishopric of Bamberg by charter dated 1 Nov 1007[105].
Duke Konrad & his wife had [nine] children:
1. [EKBERT . "Otto…imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of Oehningen,
built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde, filiorumque eius
Eggeberti, Luipoldi, Chononis, Lutoldi"[106]. The Genealogia Welforum names (in order) "Egebertum marchionem de Stadin,
Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Chunonem et 4 filias" as children of "Chuno comes [et] filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris"[107]. The
Historia Welforum names (in order) "Eggebertum, Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Counonem" as the four sons of "Couno comes" and
"filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint", specifying that Ekbert obtained "marchiam illam que est in finibus Saxonie versus
Danos, Stadin"[108]. Presumably these three documents are all based on the same source. No other reference has been identified to
"marchiam…Stadin". No record has been found of a Graf von Stade named Egbert. It is possible that there is confusion with
Ekbert [I] "der Einäugige", count in Saxony, who was probably the son of Wichmann [I] (see SAXONY).]
2. [LUITPOLD . "Otto…imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of
Oehningen, built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde,
filiorumque eius Eggeberti, Luipoldi, Chononis, Lutoldi"[109]. The Genealogia Welforum names (in order) "Egebertum
marchionem de Stadin, Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Chunonem et 4 filias" as children of "Chuno comes [et] filia Ottonis Magni
imperatoris"[110]. The Historia Welforum names (in order) "Eggebertum, Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Counonem" as the four sons of
"Couno comes" and "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint"[111]. Presumably these three documents are all based on the
same source. The doubts concerning the information contained therein relating to the supposed son named Ekbert do not inspire
confidence in the accuracy of anything relating to Luitpold, Liutold and Konrad.]
3. [LIUTOLD (-after 999). The Genealogia Welforum names (in order) "Egebertum marchionem de Stadin, Leopaldum,
Liutoldum, Chunonem et 4 filias" as children of "Chuno comes [et] filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris"[112]. The Historia Welforum
names (in order) "Eggebertum, Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Counonem" as the four sons of "Couno comes" and "filia Ottonis magnis
imperatoris…Richlint", specifying that Ekbert obtained "marchiam illam que est in finibus Saxonie versus Danos, Stadin"[113].

Konrad and Liutold Comte de Montbéliard is reconstructed by Hlawitschka[115], but this assumes that the son of Duke Konrad of
this name existed in the first place. Comte de Montbéliard.

4. [KONRAD . "Otto…imperator augustus" granted property by the spurious charter dated 13 Jan 965 to the church of Oehningen,
built according to the document by "domnus Chono comes de Oningen" with the consent of "uxoris sui Richlinde, filiorumque eius
Eggeberti, Luipoldi, Chononis, Lutoldi"[116], although as shown below this list of the couple's sons is inconsistent with other
sources. The Genealogia Welforum names (in order) "Egebertum marchionem de Stadin, Leopaldum, Liutoldum, Chunonem et 4
filias" as children of "Chuno comes [et] filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris"[117]. The Historia Welforum names (in order)

information contained therein relating to the supposed son named Ekbert do not inspire confidence in the accuracy of anything

5. HERMANN (-2/3 May 1003). The Annales Einsidlenses record the death in 997 of "Chuonradus dux" and the succession of
"Herimannus filius eius in ducatum"[119]. The Annalista Saxo (apparently incorrectly) records "Herimannum ducem" as son of
"Udonis ducis, qui aput Calabriam cum multis occubuit, quando imperator Otto secundus contra Sarracenos pugnavit"[120]. The
confusion may be due to Thietmar describing Duke Hermann as "matris meæ avunculi filius"[121], without specifying which
"avunculus" to whom this refers. He was installed in 997 as HERMANN II Duke of Swabia. A majority of south-western magnates
supported Duke Hermann's candidacy for the imperial throne in 1002 after the death of Emperor Otto III, but acknowledged the
accession of Heinrich Duke of Bavaria as king of Germany in Oct 1002[122]. The necrology of Fulda records the death "1003 IV
Non Mai" of "Herman dux"[123]. m ([986]) as her second husband, GERBERGA of Burgundy, widow of HERMANN Graf von
Werl, daughter of CONRAD I "le Pacifique" King of Burgundy [Welf] & his second wife Mathilde de France [Carolingian] (-7 Jul
1018). Herimannus names "filiam Counradi regis Burgundiæ, Gerbirgam" as wife of "Herimannus dux"[124]. The Chronicle of
Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "Rodulfum II et sororem suam Gepam matrem imperatricis Gisile" as children of "Conradus rex
Burgundie" and his wife Mathilde[125].
Burgundia" as the parents of "regis coniunx Gisela"[126]. "Otto…Romanorum imperator augustus" donated property "in villa
Stohchusen in pago Locdorp ac comitatu Herimanni comitis" to Kloster Meschede by charter dated 29 Sep 997 by request of
"Gerbirge comitisse"[127]. The necrology of Marchtalen records the death "Non Jul" of "Gerbirc ducissa"[128]. No direct record of
her first marriage has so far been identified. However, "Otto tercius…Romanorum imperator augustus" granted privileges to
Kloster Oedingen founded by "matrona Gerberga…in comitatu Herimanni eius filii" to the monks of the Marienkapelle at Aachen
by charter dated 18 May 1000[129], and Thietmar names "Count Hermann son of Gerberga" when recording his dispute with
Dietrich Bishop of Münster in 1016[130]. These two references relate to Hermann [II] Graf von Werl. In addition, "Rodulfus et
Bernhardus nati in…Werla" are named as brothers of Empress Gisela in the Annalista Saxo, although not specifying that they
were her uterine brothers[131].
6. [ITA von Öhningen (-16 Oct ----). The Genealogia Welforum names "de Oningen Itam…cuius pater fuit Chuno comes, mater
vero filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris" wife of Rudolf[152]. The Historia Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Couno comes"
and "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint", specifying that they married "una Roudolfo isti [=Welforum], alia cuidam de
Rinveldin, parenti Zaringiorum, tercia regie Rugiorum, quarta comiti de Diezon"[153]. As noted above, these two sources are
unreliable in their recording of the sons of Konrad I Duke of Swabia, so should not be assumed to be any more precise in recording
his daughters. Her birth date is estimated assuming that her parents married in [968]. The necrology of Weingarten records the
death "XVII Kal Nov" of "Ita com uxor Ruodolfi comitis"[154]. m RUDOLF II Graf von Altdorf, son of [RUDOLF I Graf] [Welf]
& his wife --- (-10 Mar ----, bur Altdorf).]
7. [ADELIA] . The Genealogia Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Chuno comes [et] filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris",
specifying that the third (unnamed) married "regi Rugorum"[155]. The Historia Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Couno
comes" and "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint", specifying that they married "una Roudolfo isti [=Welforum], alia
cuidam de Rinveldin, parenti Zaringiorum, tercia regie Rugiorum, quarta comiti de Diezon"[156]. As noted above, these two
sources are unreliable in their recording of the sons of Konrad I Duke of Swabia, so should not be assumed to be any more precise
in recording his daughters. The primary source which confirms her name has not yet been identified. m (after 1011) as his third
wife, VLADIMIR I Sviatoslavich Grand Prince of Kiev, son of SVIATOSLAV I Grand Prince of Kiev & his mistress Malusha

8. [JUDITH (-after 1032, bur Bouzonville/Buzendorf). The Genealogia Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Chuno comes [et]
filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris", specifying that the second (unnamed) married "cuidam de Rinvelden parenti Zaringorum"[157].
The Historia Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Couno comes" and "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint", specifying

Swabia, so should not be assumed to be any more precise in recording his daughters. The primary source which confirms her
second marriage has not yet been identified. The Notitiæ Fundationis Monasterii Bosonis-Villæ names "Adalbertus comes marchio
et uxor sua Iuditha" as parents of Gerhard, noting that they were both buried in the monastery and in a later passage noting their
joint donation dated "1033 pridie Kal Feb"[159]. "Iuta marchionissa Litoringie" donated property "villam nostram Mamendorf" to

[et] filia Ottonis Magni imperatoris", specifying that the fourth (unnamed) married "comite de Andhese"[161]. The Historia
Welforum refers to the four daughters of "Couno comes" and "filia Ottonis magnis imperatoris…Richlint", specifying that they
Diezon"[162]. As noted above, these two sources are unreliable in their recording of the sons of Konrad I Duke of Swabia, so
should not be assumed to be any more precise in recording his daughters. The De Fundatoribus Monasterii Diessenses names
"Kunizza comitissa" as wife of "Fridericus comes dictus Roch", but specifying that she was the sister of "sancta Richgardis que
Ebersberg cenobium construxit" and that "Otto imperator magnus" was their "avus"[163]. On the other hand, the Chronico
Eberspergense names "Rihcardem sororem Marhwardi presidis de Carinthia"[164]. No other indication has been found that
Richardis may have been the sister of Kunigunde. The De Fundatoribus records that Kunizza founded "monasterium sancti
Stephani" in 1020 after the death of her husband. The necrology of Diessen records the death "Mar Non" of "Chuniza com, sepulta

Ragnvald Ulfsson bodde i Skara.
Men i

kallas i originalet.
